Thobile, Lukholo and Mbulelo are all doing really well! Since the beginning of the 3rd term, I do homework with the 3 boys from 3.30 – 5.00pm Monday to Friday. Our first 3 days were not good, as the boys arrived late and not at all. I rectified this by buying each boy a watch, and checked that they still remembered how to tell the time. Since then, things have gone on track very well and the boys are truely blossoming beatifully.
Once again, thanks to Charlie, Robin and their boys (from 4 Winds Guest Lodge) , who have been assisting immensley with the 3 boys. They all went on a shopping mission to Mthatha on Thursday, this only being the boys 2nd visit to Mthatha. They went clothes shopping and the boys got to choose their own clothes! This definitely was a 1st for them. They went to have hamburgers and chips for lunch – which was another 1st for the boys and they went into Checkers (their 1st visit into a supermarket in their lives!!!!!) I believe that the trolleys seemed to interest the boys more than the items on the shelves and at 5pm during rush hour, the boys were zooming the trolleys up and down the eisles with great happiness.
Academically the boys are making very good progress. On the days that they don’t have homework, I provide them with an English worksheet and we do lots of English talking. We have provided them with a daily schedule which is helping the 3 boys develop routine in their lives, and because of this, they are really getting onto a positive track. While the teachers have been striking, the boys have been preparing their veggie garden at home, and they are almost ready to plant! They have also attended homework sessions everyday – nice one guys!
Creatively, the boys are also developing, as Claire, a long term guest at Coffee Shack, taught them how to make jewellery with shells, stones and string, doing different knotting methods. All 3 boys have made their own bracelets – thank you Claire.
Thobile asked me to say thank you very much to Steve (who owns the surf shop) in the US, for all the clothes and items he sent over for Thobile with Robin – Enkosi kakuhle Steve!
Will keep you guys posted on these 3 lads progress and development!
